Pain Relief, Medical Interventions, Caesarean, and Premature Baby
This lesson provides a comprehensive overview of pain relief options and medical interventions during labour and birth, helping you make informed decisions with confidence. You will explore a range of pain management methods, including epidural, spinal, gas, TENS, and hypnotherapy, as well as understand procedures such as episiotomy, avoiding tears, assisted delivery, breech presentation, and induction for post-dates pregnancies. The aim is to give you a balanced understanding of when and why these interventions may be recommended.
We also cover caesarean birth in detail, including reasons for a caesarean, different types, potential complications, recovery and healing, and approaches such as a “natural caesarean.” You will learn about caesarean advantages, how to reduce the likelihood of needing one, and how to prepare a caesarean birth plan, including what to pack for hospital. A guest speaker shares her experience of five positive caesarean births, supported by a caesarean video. The lesson concludes with guidance on premature labour and caring for a premature baby.
